Sanjoaninas is coming (starting tomorrow)! All around the city there are preparations going on. The streets are decorated with lights and garlands and festive banners. Snack stands are popping up in the plazas and around the beach. Tents are being set up, and there is a lot more hustle and bustle in the air. Fireworks go off every 5-10 minutes from somewhere or another in the city - touradas, festas at imperios, processions...
After spending most of the day in the residencia, I decided tonight to follow the fireworks and see what I could find. I apparently have really bad directional perception of sounds, because I wandered around in circles for 30 minutes. On the positive side, I got to see a lot more of what's going up for the festival and hopefully scout out where the action will be over the next week (more decorations now = more fun later, right?). Finally I figured out what direction the noises were coming from and went there... and who should I find but Laura H. and Chris? They were also heading to the festa, although from different directions. We went and listened to the singing outside the imperio, and then were invited inside to participate in the feast. Again, the food was amazing and so filling, yet we kept finding room for more as they brought out more and more courses. It was cool because I recognized a few people from the hospital, Laura recognized a student from the school, and of course Chris made a few more friends within minutes. All in all, it was a good night, and I can't wait to see what the next week will bring.
